Here we are.

Hey! This is Anther.

What is this project? Right now, it's very little of anything. In Unity, it's a platformer with the bones of a combat system and an item system. In my brain, it's a deep world with a rich history (and a vibrant future). I have so many plans and too many ideas to bring them all to light, so I'm just taking it a step at a time.

Since I don't have much in the way of a playable game to share with you, I'll start by sharing some of my plans and inspirations.

1.  I’m always inspired by games that require tight timing and dexterous movements, making the combat feel like it puts you in a flow state. So my goal with Anther is to do exactly that, I want every fight to feel like a delicate dance.

2.  I want to create the potential for emergent gameplay. I love the way you naturally develop a build over the course of your run in roguelikes such as Risk of Rain and Slay the Spire. While Anther will have a fixed map, the progression will be nonlinear and run-based, and I’m working on an item system that will allow the player to create builds and explore item synergies each time you traverse the map.

3.  Finally, I want to build a world that feels like it is full of depth and discovery - specifically, I want it to feel like a biologically diverse ecosystem with many different animals and plants, whose presence and behavior are all integrated into the player’s experience. I’ve always loved the diversity and interconnectedness of real-world biological systems, and I’m really trying to let that love influence the world of Anther (don't expect anything as complex as Rainworld tho lol).

So how will you, the potential player, interact with this world? Stay tuned. Anther will be a sidescrolling platformer, and my current plan is to structure the world like a metroidvania. The story will be driven by exploration, and the gameplay will largely consist of combat scenarios, platforming challenges, and puzzles.

It will be set in a fantasy world (the sword and sorcery kind). The lore will go deep, but none of it will be handed to you. Enough said. I need to work on the game now.
